Donald S Murray's latest literary effort, The Call of the Cormorant, has been spotlighted by Scotsman journalist Allan Massie as one of the books of 2022.
Writing in his just-published book review of 2022, Massie said: “Among Scottish writers, Donald S Murray satisfyingly extended his range with The Cry (sic) of the Cormorant, based on the life of a Faroese fantasist and artist who contrived to get mixed up with the Nazis, broadcasting in wartime from Berlin; a remarkable story, elegantly and compellingly told.”

The Call of the Cormorant has been named the Press and Journal’s Book of the Week on November 13, 2022, and awarded 10/10.
In her review, Mia Kellner states: “A beautifully written novel, the prose sweeps off the page like the seabirds of the Faroes as Murray evokes wonder and disapproval in the vivid depiction of Karl Einarsson, a man whose attempts at self-creation inevitably veered towards self-destruction.”
