Donald S Murray – writer & poet

Red Star Over Hebrides author Donald S Murray gets to promote his latest book on home turf next week.

He will be at Shetland Library on Thursday, July 20, from 6.30 pm for an hour of chat and readings, with guest Sunni Gear and fiddle music by Isla Scollay and Freya Hutcheson.

It’s a free event, and Donald will sign copies of his book.

The book launch in Shetland is the first of many lined up in the near future.

Red Star Over Hebrides was published on Wednesday, June 21. In a book review by Cathy Macdonald, she described Donald S Murray as “one of the great lyrical writers of our time.”

His latest publication illuminates the relatively little-known links between the former Soviet Union and the Outer Hebrides, where Donald was born and raised.

He has produced a tour de force of a book that’s a remarkable collection of songs, stories and verse rooted in post-war Lewis.

There are three dates in August to hear Donald talk about his new book:

Monday, August 7 - The Watermill, Aberfeldy
Tuesday, August 8 - The Bookmark, Grantown-on-Spey
Wednesday, August 9 - Golden Hare Books, Edinburgh.

And Donald will be returning to Lewis to appear at Stornoway Library on Saturday, August 12

Red Star Over Hebrides (9781739207717) is available from Taproot Press and other outlets priced at £14.99
